Vanessa Jacob
Born and raised in the East Sepik Province of Papua New Guinea, Vanessa Jacob is a local indigenous artist who designs and creates necklaces, earrings and bilum bags. Made traditionally and with locally-sourced materials Vanessa, who now resides in Kamkumung was taught this skill in the village by her beloved mother.
With a distinct perspective of the world around her and a desire to keep cultural customs and artistic techniques alive, Vanessa produces durable, intricately woven pieces that sometimes take weeks to make.
In this diverse tropical environment where the majority of the inhabitants live largely traditional village lifestyles in agricultural societies, Vanessa gleans inspiration from her family, her culture and the picturesque landscape around her.
A true master of her craft she is driven not only by a passion for creative art and keeping her culture alive, but also by a desire to support others around her.
Her goal is to empower her family, educate her community and to share her art with the world.
